Basically if you repeat a pattern say every 10 ms then the result will be periodic with a fundamental frequency of 100 Hz. This is true for arbitrary patterns, overlapping or not, as long as they are all similar. Now the interesting thing is that the resulting tone will have the timbre (spectral envelope) of the grains.

If, in particular, we take the grains from an audio stream or file, we can release them at a rate at will to generate a tone with a given frequency. This tone will then have a similar timbre as the originalaudio.

The tricky part is to extract grains in a way that adjacent grains are similar. This can be done for monophonic input only. That is one limitation of this method (also algo #2 above).

You're welcome Kortezzz mate,
I am interested too in pitch shifting and sampling.
I'll up here a pitch shifter->
https://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/5zl57i

..and a sampler->
https://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/acf2re

The pitch shifter is grain based(it resamples grains)-
& the sampler is based off one by Exonerate

Can't hurt I guess if ya wanna have a look

you're welcome!
glad u like them-
feel free to use and skin any or all of the bobbins-
in any of your builds, free or otherwise.
-- a credit would be cool if u do so

Thanks nix :D
The one sample based sampler is realy C-O-O-L. I love it so much and would love to use it's blue-green-red mechanism. Indeed, you'll get the credit and the respect you deserve. Just one comment I would like to mention:
Don't know if you noticed, but as long as you press 3 keys at once, it will generate the voices perfectly. But if a 4 keys (or more) chord is played, it chokes (I play with the pc keyboard). Why should that happen? I believe its a kinda FS limitation or something, don't it (I use 3.0.6 version)?

did you try raising the latency buffer on yer soundcard?
How does it choke?
What audio artefact is it -if pops could be audio buffer.
I tried a quick test and seems fine here.

White is also a key ingredient- green is mainly for the porta(and ofc constants).

Something is disconnected in the start and end readout.

Oh- thanks for the praise- ooh
be sure and credit Exo too, that's where I started, it's in the shifter for testing(Exo's sampler)

The upload is for FS 3081

Well, looks like its related to my machine. I don't use an PRO audio interface. Just an ASIO4ALL driver at the moment. My buffer is on 512 so it's probably takes me into nasty situations :roll:
Anyway, its super-cool sampler and sounds quite well. Indeed, a credit would given to you and to Exo ;)
