Well if you have audio inputs then it should be an effect, and users could still route midi to it, if it also has midi in

Ok thanks Adam. Of course FS identifies it as an instrument.

The way forward is for me to experiment and see what I can get working in the trial version of FLS.
If I have issues I’ll start a new topic and link to this one.

VST preset question

if you make a rompler but like a vst. how do you store the preset banks so you can have many preset banks?

A “rompler” contains a fixed set of sounds which are selected for use in presets using any method whose settings are stored in the preset manager in the normal way.

Normally you would store the sounds in a Wav array and these will then be embedded into the schematic and VSTi.

The Preset Manager can save and load ALL presets (a bank) or individual presets.
