Weirdest Sound Challenge

Postby martinvicanek » Wed Mar 31, 2021 6:09 pm

Hey gang, let's do something different. Let us lay aside for a moment the traditional sound synthesis techniques and boldly go where no man has gone before.

What is the weirdest sound you can imagine?
How would you go about creating it?
If you have a schematic that sounds weird, let's hear it!

I'll make a start with this one. A tiny white noise is fed into a chorous-like device (in fact a convolution with what I would describe as a rolling random sequence, somewhat related to my chainsaw oscillator). Anyway, the output is then fed back (through a compressor to prevent runaway) into the chorus. The result is a growling, howling sound, even a bit scary. There are some knobs you can play with.

Now I am sure you can top that!

What demonic weirdness is this? Have you been dabbling in the Dark Arts Martin? :o

Seriously weird and that sound is remarkable. It doesn’t repeat yet has a character that has bounds which you can adjust.

I have to ask, were you trying to make something “proper” and came upon this by serendipity?

Recently I had an idea for an infinite pad sound generator, and I will try it in the future. But it won’t sound like it’s been invoked from hell.

This is a bump for the X11 and Greysynth, that definitely fit the category of "weird sounds" :)
I like your schematic Martin but Spogg is right..it sounds like a Demon

Sort of, yes, in my early experiments with MVerb 7B. It is not exactly how you would want a reverb sound, but I found it "interesting" in its own right.

Yes, I would agree they qualify  , so let me link them here.

A thing of beauty Martin. I'm going to run it on a loop all weekend 8-)
Needs a bit of reverb tho ..
Also, I can't work out what key it's in  # b
