PDC - Predicted Delay Compensation

Hi,
I'm wondering about the 'PDC' issue. Not sure I understand it correctly.
Is this description correct:
Ideally, all channels should be playing at the same exact timing, for coherency.
Since each channel might have different processing, and some of the processing might introduce latency, there is no way for the host (DAW) to know how to set the compensation.
For this reason, each processor, 'reveals' it internal latency to host.
Example:
If we are dealing with a 'look ahead limiter' with a latency of 24 samples, its PDC should be set to '24'.
The host will send information to the channel which runs the limiter 24 samples ahead of other channels, to keep coherency.
Is this correct info?
Appreciated !
