Digital painting with Krita (open source)
By coincidence, I discovered a 'hidden' gem for digital painting this week:

Thank you for the link! Awesome finding.
The tool is impressive, and in the hands of an artist it will produce masterpieces (in my hands it won't produce anything
)
I like that it is not only full of features, but that the developers are quite self-confident:
"Open PSD files that even Photoshop cannot open."

I don't know which hardware you are using exactly. This may be relevant, because digital painting with high-end brush techniques can be quite demanding. Of course, you could check out the Krita forum for supplying feedback and getting support, but I will also run some benchmark tests with my Wacom Intuos Pro Large drawing tablet.
OpenGL graphics acceleration is being used extensively in Krita for Windows, OSX & Linux. Partly based on the Kickstarter funded Krita 2015 development project, their promise is to be(come) faster than Photoshop and better than Corel Paint for digital painting (and they are currently widening the scope by adding old school animation features).
By the way, staying more 'on-topic'
, i.m.h.o. OpenGL support should also be integrated in FlowStone.

Re: Digital painting with Krita (open source)
After releasing Krita 3.0 (beta) with some great new features*, the new Krita Kickstarter campaign has just started:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/krita/krita-2016-lets-make-text-and-vector-art-awesome?ref=nav_search
If you like the Krita open source initiative and their rapid development pace then please spread the word. If you find Krita as awesome as I do then you just might want to consider pledging some money too for backing the Kickstarter campaign, also enabling voting for the stretch goals of your liking (starting from 15 Euro).
