At least to be half taken seriously


Must confess, made 2 commercial releases lately, and got that kind of responds:

forum member1: "No mac AU ???? "

forum member2: "No 64bit ??????????"

forum member3: "Don't u see on details its flowstone?"

a week later: no new responds. the peer pressure makes people avoid of even paying a little attention to any
"32bit only" new release; a total disregard and disrespect. It must change, starting with at least 64bit.

Anyone here interested in kickstarting Flowstone64 ?

I know the devs are BUSY and a 64Bit version is A HELL OF A LOT OF TIME & WORK involved. So, instead of the monthly "when is 64bit released" post lets actually DO something to get the devs to start on it.

Lets be honest, the only way we will get 64bit is if its going to be worth their while. No, I am NOT saying we should do all the work but to get things started im willing to put down 100GBP and leave it up to the capable hands of FS devs. We purchased FS as is, in its current state. I never bought it with the thin promise of 64Bit & OSX. No, I bought it as it stands today & I think its only fair to put down some capital to get it to where we want it. If anyone is interested in kickstarting this then let me know as I will forward this onto Malc.

I sincerely hope that the many of whom complained and moaned will actually (myself included) get something done about it. The work involved to move to a 64bit compiler and change all the prims is massive & shouldnt go unpaid so get the "it should be an update" idea out of your head now. Its not gonna happen.

Lets show the devs that we are willing to pay for the work THEY put in, in return for OUR satisfaction in having the ability to dev for 64bit systems.

Until then, nothing will happen & this thread will grow . . . and grow. . .

But you are not right, the Malc post @ synthmaker.co.uk is clear. He said he will go too look for that, has he done? just a look?

Hey CoreStylerz, glad to hear you are on board :lol:

I think Malc took a look into the work of a 64bit version & found that it was massive. I cant say as to why he never got back to anyone.But thats not the point. The point is we want 64bit support. To do that, i think the ONLY way we will get it, is to kickstart it & show the FS devs that there is a lot of us who are willing to get it going and pay for it.

Again, my idea is to kickstart the 64bit version of Flowstone. It will be a full DSPR developed project. (if anything happens)

Naturally, the more of us who put money down, the better for everyone involved.

It's huge since how Flowstone is made forces it to be difficult..
I explain better.
If for example Malc rewrite Flowstone with JUCE as framework, this will be really easiliy doable. It can still support his 3rd party primitives for robotics etc etc stuff... No more rely on Windows API, portable etc etc.

I belive that a community effort in that will produce maybe a good software, but still limited.
And.. Any other implementations requires to give access to source.

Im sure that alot of KVR odd like people will also participate to the kickstarter project, but Malc.. Would you like? :(

In principle, I'm in too. I think kickstarting is good idea and would love to hear DSPR is co-operating.
I have no idea if DSPR have the skills to perform that kind of project (must be JUCE based? what about delphi?) ,but
I think that if we make these efforts, the final results must be a cross-platform system and not only 64bit.

Its a way better starting with a little limited tool (but cross-platform) then staying with the current tool.

Drnkhobo, I think you should mail developers and get some answers from them. i'm sure
that many would love to take a part in this project (even the old SM members).

Juce is a c++ framework for audio stuff.
The advabtage is VST,au export 32 e 64,bit.
Graphics are OS independant and accellerated also.

Advantage for Devs is less code (a lot of audio stuff is made graphic stuff etc etc)
To work with these kind of frameworks, the code should be changed according to the framework and will be non no more retro compatible I think.
I dunno if flowstone can make most changes only in the export side. I mean, don't change flowstone but make the vst compiler able at exporting both 32 and 64 bit plugins.
I dunno if is easier, or can be done.
This at least will allow us to sell 64 bit plugins that requires no more bridges.. And identical to 32, no features added.
This case also not interfere with robots etc etc.. But ruby? This sure will have issues
.

Lets get this straight, im not suggesting that anyone ELSE other than DSPR starts a kickstarter project to develop a 64Bit version. None other than them can do it (legally too).

Ive already asked about this and its not really helpful for them. Its amazingly simple (relatively) to compile to 32+64 bits, VST & AU too. Its nice but I guess its not where they want to go with it. I think they have a good idea of what needs to be done and really just need some funding to get it going.

Im sure they will continue to develop this version of FS for robotics and engineering stuff which is at least part of their income.

From here its up to them to get the project started . . .

This isn´t as simple as it sounds. AFAIK, FS does´t have a "vst compiler". The exported VST version of an FS schematic is actually the same FS app without the editing features and the schematic appended to its end, and the main screen is actually the GUI made by the user in that schematic. So to change the VST version of FS to be, say, 64 bits, you´d have to actually change FS to be 64bits.

You mean start a Kickstarter to raise 100GBP, right? (which I understand to be 100,000 british pounds, right?)

Oh man, i would happily open source my project for that kind of money, then you can make any number of bits you want with it.... :shock: :lol:

BTW, and I think there´s some clarifying needed here: when you guys say 64bits, you mean an app designed for running under a 64bits OS, or you mean an app that can handle 64 bits audio samples?
