Bedini 3D Audio hardware was recreated with synthmaker??

Postby mayo » Mon Sep 26, 2016 11:04 am

Hi

This fantastic unit, used secretly by many mastering engineers cost 6000 Eur
http://bediniaudio.com/bedini-base.php

Its inventor Mr. Bedini recreated it with synthmaker!! (Flowstone) here:
http://johnbedini.net/john34/test.html

but he didnt released any schematics, vst, nothing...

Can any of you geniuses recreates it in synthmaker/flowstone or make something similar?

Here are patents with more infos:

Hi mayo

I’ve spent some time looking into this and I’m afraid my impression is that this is a mixture of marketing BS and very redundant electronics put together to register a patent. Of course it does create an effect but the underlying method is a simple one, albeit extravagantly hyped in the patent text.

Essentially the process is to create a mono signal then use a Philips TDA3810 configured to make a frequency-dependant phase shift between channels and mix between the two signal sources. The other electronics allows some left channel and right channel cross-mix at a fixed proportion. Looking at the circuit all the action happens in blocks 10, 20 and 30. Block 40 is just a unity gain stereo buffer, block 50 just raises the stereo level and blocks 60 and 80 are just unity gain buffers either side of block 70, a volume control.

Of course this assumes that the published circuit is accurate and not made to misinform the competition. It’s interesting that the commercial product has 4 knobs whereas the patent only shows 2 so I’m suspicious.

What I’ve described above should be dead easy to achieve in Flowstone but there are many ways to widen stereo or create pseudo-stereo from a mono source.

Cheers

I re-checked the circuit and I made a slight error. Blocks 40 and 60 provide a linear gain of 2 per op-amp and only block 80 is unity gain, all non-inverting. This only affects the mix levels (pot postioning) and will have no influence on the spacialisation result. I suspect this is done to optimise the control range.

What I'm unable to do is reconcile the circuit with the product description but I'm sufficiently inspired to experiment and maybe make something similar.

Watch this space...

If you want to check something quite interesting ...

Look at Merging Technologies, 'Voicode'.

The description:
... interpolate a stereo position for multiple sounds in a mono recording and adjust the correlation between them in real-time.

They have audio examples posted. Very interesting.

After some deeper analysis of US patent 5748745 circuit diagram I've created an emulation based on the exact configuration and values. I've tested with various source material and, much to my surprise, it actually seems to work quite well, but you must be the judge of that.

The project comes with a basic wav player (not by me) with seaside waves pre-loaded, as this seems to show off the effect quite well. The module is intended for use with speakers.

As always, please feel free to do anything you wish with this and any other stuff I upload.

I'm intending to make an effect collection rack just for stereo and mono-to-stereo processing so, if this one seems good enough, it'll be included. There are lots of techniques out there so I intend to have some fun with this idea...

Hi Spogg!.. Fantastic Work!!

I like this surround sound. Very much like to pan the sound up and down.
Is very similar to JB Isone Pro esle ahead to put the equalizer ...

Hi Guys

Perfect Spogg thanks, fantastic work! Just it is adding stereo to one channel more but ic an be fixed. Thanks for sharing. I found original hardware for perfect price and I ordered it - as soon as I receive it I will compare with software and will let you know. Thanks

Here's today's development work for you to have a go with if you want to. Early stages but all working...
