New Beta: LA School vocal width

Postby wlangfor@uoguelph.ca » Wed Aug 28, 2019 2:22 am

Hopefully I can have this ready for 10 est (30 mins)

For now here's the incomplete if you're curious. I use the combo of width, haas and conventional stereo in combo with mid side. I make sure to run the haas entirely with mid side.

I'll add a small amount of stereo to the mid side's signal going to the haas so that there's a small amount of phase, but not too much.

Enjoy this thought provoking idea.
LA shool vocal width v0.02.fsm

UPDATE: So, updated this. It works now. But, I think I'll code it to dsp and then asm instead of primitives for the most part. The real question will be which delay to use so as to save cpu.

I was inspired by Bootsy's rescue MK2. It sounds similar, but it's missing the mixing vocal rider subbing for a limiter. That adds and extra level of smoothness.

However, the rescue is usually best for electric piano, guitar drums. Assuming that you have a de-esser on the drums anyways. I hope you find the idea cool and useful.

OK, so now I'm cooking with gas.

Here's a version that sounds clean with almost no sonic footprint. It's an extreme width though still subtle.
I still intend to add some raw signal in the mix though for perceptability.

This will have a slurry of knobs and controls. It uses more CPU than I'd like. I also added default digital delay. I'll add a few tweaks here and there.

So, hydra was a doubler, and this thing does the same thing for the most part. I'm using fractional delays; but there's no measure in units like I'd prefer, so I may use the same delays which I utilized in the Hydra model.

I'm thinking I might add a doubler behind the haas. I'll make sure that everything is optional an every feature has a knob. I plan 200 presets for this bad boy. But, I could use your help. Anyone have a cool delay for vocals I could use as an option? That'd be really cool. Keep in mind though, I'm trying to avoid "thick".

If not to joke ... In fact, such a technology creates a 4D binoural field that works better than conventional stereo technology and better than Ambiphonix by virtualizing 2 different types of ear canals, this can give a completely new approach to shaping the sound behavior in 3D environment. My impulse works great with FL Convolver.

It works as if you have ears on top of your head ... but it can be used for other sound manipulations.

There is also another technology, more advanced, which allows you to capture IR in one period of time, and then change this IR using settings, which makes this technology more attractive than Volterra that Nebula VST uses =3

Why are you using such a historical version of FL when there is a beautiful 20, I wonder ...

I can't speak for him, but I never got past 11. Though there are significant updates, nothing has stopped me from accomplishing what I need. I run a studio, and produce out of FL11. I will probably someday change once I have 4 screens and nothing but free time to catch up, but I hate the minimum size of the mixer, and the look of the graphics.

It slows down my workflow, and moving at that speed is the most important tool I have.

Thank you, I understand your opinion ...
I think you could be disappointed with FL version 12,
However, version 20 is very stable and fast, and there is also great support for plugins.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I really want to advise this to everyone ...
However, I am outraged by the fact that FS support has stopped ... I always counted Flow and FL as friends.

I swore here, a long time ago ...
That person who loves something is always very worried about what is dear to him.

I am very synthetical, and I love flow stone and image line (^◔ᴥ◔^)
just my opinion........

here is what I am coming up with. Unfortunately I could not find a nice sounding mid side as yet. I will though. Just need to look through schematics.

here's something that sounds like a studio, but I intend to add haas for four-five bands. It's a commercial vocal processor.
