Hello Spogg and RJ, hello forum,

thank you for the appreciation. Usually I am too knackered after work to do anything intellectually demanding, but I have so much fun with Flowstone that at least I try to get knowledgeable about the basics. The net helps a lot.

There are very special people in this forum who let others participate by providing tutorials, schematics and entire instruments. Without those contributions I'd stand no chance of ever making any progress, so take these posts as my thank you to you all. I love to share and as I don't have much when it comes to Flowstone per se, I'll let you take part in my readings.

DISCO: An object-oriented system for music composition and sound design

This paper describes an object-oriented approach to music composition and sound design. The approach unifies the processes of music making and instrument building by using similar logic, objects, and procedures. The composition modules use an abstract representation of musical data, which can be easily mapped onto different synthesis languages or a traditionally notated score. An abstract base class is used to derive classes on different time scales. Objects can be related to act across time scales, as well as across an entire piece, and relationships between similar objects can replicate traditional music operations or introduce new ones. The DISCO (Digital Instrument for Sonification and Composition) system is an open-ended work in progress.

Just had a quick read at this and it is awesome! It actually speaks to beginners more than to professionals, but that's exactly why I highly recommend it for those who are already a bit familiar with Ruby, but not with certain details of algorithm programming. A big part of this book is pathfinding, which you only need when developing games, but the rest is very valuable (like dozens of sorting algorithms, matrix programming and such).
