Hi-Rez MIDI [CC] values

Postby RJHollins » Sat Apr 26, 2014 8:28 pm

again with a new project idea ... but an important 1st question please ...

We know that standard MIDI uses control values of 0-127.

But there is also a protocol technique that can use a much finer resolution.

General question ... can we do this 'Hi-Rez' values with FS ??

ahhh ... OK Guys ....thanks to both.

Actually ... I think Tronic hit the with the
NRPN
14bit MSB LSB

I couldn't recall the exact name ... but the 14bit was the Hi-Rez version.

I think I remember seeing a module [from TROG ?] that had something about this ... will have to look in the tool shed ;) ..... YEP .... found something there 8-)

There was also a module that SOMEBODY put together called 'Audio to MIdi CC' ... can't remember where I found ... could have been on the SM forum .... anyway ...

The CRAZY idea.

I need to track an audio signal for it's MAX PEAK level, convert that MAX value into MIDI data, and then [via MIDI], send it to another VST plugin  I know .... just plain crazy.

Actually, I was hoping that the 'passing' of data between to apps [plugins] would have been simpler, but it looks to knowing C++ and creating a special DLL file [something like that ... this was mentioned in another thread]. Well, at this stage, that's a bit beyond my ability

Thusly ... the idea to stream the data over MIDI, where I can establish 2-way communication. The idea is to be able to monitor audio levels and post that data at a point above the audio stream. The 'monitoring' plugin would also be a VCA that could be controlled [via MIDI] from this 'above' location in the FX chain. Ideally there would be several of these 'monitors' placed between other plugins in the chain, where the 'levels' can be monitored [and controlled] from a single location GUI.

Crazy ...

Anyway .... my hope is that with the Hi-Rez MIDI, I could have finer steps between values.

I do have a rather basic schematic that starts to demonstrate the idea, but I'm in the early stage of putting this design together.

May need to ask for GURU assist :o

Again ... thank-you Gentlemen 8-)
