more data acquisition drivers ?

Postby ffred » Wed Jul 07, 2021 7:58 am

Hi,
I just discovered flowstone which I find rather interesting. I am considering using it, but my goal is more data acquisition and I find that the number of supported products seems a bit limited.
eg why are there only 2 Labjack products supported? why not the others?
Are drivers added from time to time for other products or do we have to manage by ourselves to use any DLLs supplied with these products?
thanks..

Hi,

If any products connect as HID devices (most do) AND you can get the data format (usually found in the product SDK/API, and programming examples), you can use the FlowStone HID Module to do the data decoding. It works quite well. The built in modules do exactly that as far as I can tell, because they are no faster or slower than using the built-in HID Module...

So, the most important thing is to look for the Labjack SDK info.

I have done this numerous times, and even with my own PIC Microcontroller products (8 channel 32 bit high speed encoders, 16 channel 12 bit ADCs, 16 In / 16 Out digital for example).

You can get about 100Hz read time, and with an adaptive filter, the noise reduction can both be done at the microcontroller, AND in FlowStone.

Also...

See this thread: http://www.dsprobotics.com/support/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=75177

It has some of the modules I use for noise reduction.

Additionally, (for example) you can get the change of signal amplitude (subtract last sample from previous), and use that data to make a decision on "how much filter" to apply to the signal. Some really nice controls can be made thinking with sample AND sample time data...

You can get quite crafty with the design of these types of filters with knobs (internal GUI type or external ADC type), such that you can have fine control normally, AND have coarse control when turning the knob quickly. As such, the signal responds quickly for high amplitude changes, and filters noise during relatively small changes.

Good Luck,

Aron
