dirt cheap IO

Postby fixstuff555 » Wed May 04, 2011 3:09 am

I had a thought today. I was playing with the Xbox360 module, and I was really impressed with it. There are some things that would be nice however if possible. For the Xbox360, there is the green Xbox logo button, the 4 leds around that button, and the audio connector with audio out, and microphone in. Is it possible to extend the Xbox360 primitive to include these? If these were included you would have this I/O combination.

15 digital inputs (14 + 1 guide button)
4 digital outs (LED ring)
2 PWM motor outputs
6 analog inputs
analog out (speaker)
microphone IN
Wireless or wired transmission

That's pretty impressive for a device that costs ~$25US. Not only could this be a great controller for a RC or autonomous device, it would make a pretty decent IO point as well. Obviously, all of that IO would have to be buffered, but it could make for a poor-man's USB I/O node. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a boatload of these lying around with a broken button or something.
