Possible GUI /Png Bug.

Postby lalalandsynth » Sat Oct 06, 2018 1:05 pm

So after chasing this GUI cpu bug/problem that haunts me and not solving it, I started a new project , its about 1% cpu. Then I start loading PNg´s , adding nothing to audio processing and boom its at 14 % cpu , which is always my exact CPU problem with everything I do and I can never really bring it down.
No running meters or moving graphics, only Png backgrounds, and Strips.

I always load png´s as backgrounds , knobs etc , I wonder if the cpu/Gui problem is simply caused by loading the GUI elements and not triggers and such ?

So, the project reached 14% cpu, I shut it down, open the one without png GUI.

Its then about 3% and occasionally jumps to 5%.
Open the same project with the GUI and its anywhere from 7% to 12%.

Why is this ?
Like I said , most of my projects sit at 14-16% and I cannot figure out why .

I tried something like this in 3.06 and failed to reproduce the issue.

I have my screenshots saved in png format for my user manuals. Typically they are around 6 inches square and 600 dpi. They weigh in at about 2 MB each.

So I loaded 4 of these in viewers into an empty project module and arranged it so they were all visible in the large view area of the module front panel.
Once the CPU had settled (Task manager) the CPU dropped to zero (core i7). It only increased if I dragged the images, then after that it went back to zero.

If you’re using a FS 4 alpha maybe you found a bug.
I have the current alpha on my 64 bit boot partition so I could have a look. Otherwise try the exact same thing you do in 3.06 and see if there’s a difference.

As Martin said, we need something to play with.

Cheers

Yes, I am using the alpha , but stuff like this happens in most of my plugins, excessive CPU usage.
I might be on the wrong track here but something is afoot.
I did however find a CPU culprit in one of the meters in this particular project.
So its better now, Still heavier on the cpu with the gui.

I guess at this point I am a bit confused as to what is normal as my plugins are always heavy. :)
I will try and recreate this in the 3.09 if you guys can open that ?

I am reporting in the Alpha forum.

Nobody uses, or should use, the 3.09s so please download and use 3.08.1 or 3.06

Yes, That has been an ongoing issue making the switch to the stable version because all my assets are for the 3.09.
But yes I will download the older one and see if its any different.

Something interesting!

I just checked a few of my larger synth projects (and one by another person) and I’m getting around 15% CPU on the Task Monitor in Windows, with no sound (ASIO turned off) and no GUI motions.

However, when I test this as a VSTi export in Reaper the CPU is zero with no notes playing.

I’ve also noticed that as a project grows it becomes more “jerky” and less responsive to GUI input in the FS editor, but as a VSTi the same project runs really smoothly.

So I would say you have no real problem; it’s just the way FlowStone handles the editing environment. I suggest you check your project as an export and see what the CPU is doing.

Cheers

Yes, I will do that for this specific project but mostly my CPU issues are indeed when running in Reaper.
Might be different for this one, will check.
At least good to know that its not consistent between FS and Reaper...in a sense.
