Distortion effects
Hi there,
New to the site.
Wondering if anyone had any resources or know of any examples of distortion effects/DSP code that could be used to create quite extreme distortion sounds AKA https://www.izotope.com/trash2. ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Many thanks
Lee

Re: Distortion effects
"Distortion" can mean a lot of things, but most commonly its basis is in waveshaping. And waveshaping is simply math functions applied to the input signal that alters the output signal.
For example (grabbed this from Variety of Sound)
This is a simple "saturation"-type waveshaping that mimics the saturation distortion in an analog system.
There are many ways to spice things up with filtering and well whatever you could imagine.
There is a basic waveshaping module in the stock toolbox.

Re: Distortion effects
Sorry, I guess that was a little vague, I have created various effects so far, The types I have managed to create are a basic fuzz box comprised of a overdrive and a filter, bit crusher, and I have used the basic waveshaper and the clipper. What I am looking for is to expand on this and make some new effects. Kind of hit a brick wall in what I can try next, as most distortion is just adding harmonics or creating phase like effects. I would like to try and create a cos sign based distortion, and phase distortion oscillation, The ultimate thing I am looking to do is to build a pad like interface with a X,Y,Z Axis that effects could be added to each parameter, is the there a example of:-
A) A chaos pad GUI
B) various different distortion modules
I know that's allot but new to the software and really would like to give this a go, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Lee

Re: Distortion effects
i did a multifx including a drawable waveshape distortion and a couple of overdrive algorithms, pm me if you are interested in the schematic..
