Commercially releasing a plug-in made with flowstone
Hi,
Are there any limitations on releasing something made on flowstone?
Licencing fee's, use of the pre-fabricated internal effects, use of borrowed examples?
Kind Regards

if you use any of my posted schematics (also if you changed anything inside) you need to pay me a fee! just write me a pm to sort out the conditions! if you share it or use it for a commercial product (also when it is free) without any agreement and/or you say it is yours, you will be disrespected in the whole developer society and your soul will burn in hell forever! so better think twice when ripping off someone elses work (this includes also borrowed examples!) and telling it is yours

I fully concur with Nubeat7! PM ANYONE you have used modules, schematics, or parts of for there permission or licensing.
Thank you, BobF.....

I respect you for asking beforehand!
Regarding Flowstone and everything that's bundled with Flowstone (see Forum/Downloads/Modules) doesn't need any extra licensing. You are free to use that material in any way you like.
User examples mostly are just that: examples. They are not intended for a commercial release. It's just fair to ask for permission when using them nonetheless. As far as I am concerned, everything I published here or at Flowstone GURU is CC BY 3.0 DE. That means you have to link to my files either here or on GURU, and give a copyright notice with my name 'tulamide'. That's it.

Re: Commercially releasing a plug-in made with flowstone
In keeping in topic context ...
I would like to suggest that 'authors' submitting code examples [regardless of size, detail, or completeness] include their identify name. I would think it good to do this even in the filename posted.
There are 'examples' posted that I might not get to for quite some time. Who knows what aspect or project I might be into at that point.
I feel privileged to have access to some very talented programmers here at forum. Should it happen, I would much like to properly credit with permission as needed.
To a question. Is there a FS setting that would provide a template of author detail that is included with a schematic ?
Thanks again to all.

Re: Commercially releasing a plug-in made with flowstone
I would put it in these words. Open for a discussion.
1) In general - yes, exported apps and plugins can be used for any needs (commercial or non-commercial) without any specific restrictions (i.e. you don't need to mark it "made in Flostone" or so) nor fees.
2) You are obligated to follow specific individual licence agreements if in your projects - you use schematics or portions made by someone else - if these included modules are marked inside schematic or outside it (in authors profile on this board, on weblink provided or in forum footnote) as somehow licenced. It will be usual some Creative Commons licence, like CC-BY (attribution).
2a) Let say that there is a "threshold of fair use", when you are obligated to respect such licence, but you are encouraged to use it.
- Example 1: obvious fragments of code, common and elementary in programming languages, like simple boolean gate. Boolean gate does simple thing, but sometimes folks add visual (visible in schematic, useless from functional perspective of exported app)
- Example 2: solutions created from scrach by you, that are not elementary, but do the same functional thing. This one is yours, but maybe you were inspired by something that you exploited as a base?
- Example 3: portions of code that contain signifficant amount of unique elements and functional units to produce certain result (a result that you know how achieve!). To give a view. If making such thing from scratch takes few minutes, then this is a work on-the-go. If maaking such thing, even youf you know how - takes let say 1-3 hours, then you may say that you are using someone's work to simplify yours.
- Example 4: Implementations of complex ideas (even if these implementations are simple), that are available for you as well. For example - if there are any formulas of certain type of filters available on the internet, then everyone can create it (also you), but such creation may require certain amount of skills. You may have these skills or not, and this would be your basis in regards to few lines of such code. Remember, that the idea you are based on - may require following certain types of licence as well.
In other words - you are strictly obligated to follow a licence if:
- you use someone's idea, i.e. idea that is unique and their own.
- you use someone's approach to an idea, an approach that is unique and not common(-ly used) in a "natural way" (with certain exceptions, when you have developed the same approach - generally this depends on complexity of projects).
- you use someone's work, a schematic that would require large amounts of time to wire it at typical programming speed.
"Fair use" means, that you are not forced to follow a licence, but you are willing to do so or because you respect works that other folks did.
3) This is my guess. Due to relatively closed architecture of Flowstone - you can't patent schematics or solutions, to prevent others from doing the same thing. But you can patent an idea (thus - others would have to use different words to describe the same thing). You can patent or copyright your own multimedia (graphics, sounds, etc) included to your project.
