Copy a custom group of modules

Postby flowstone » Sat Aug 27, 2011 1:04 am

I have made a custom group in the component browser that I use to have convenient access to a number of custom modules. Is there a way to easily replicate that group to my laptop installation, so I can have them while working on the road? Thanks in advance!

maybe if you just copy your FlowStone install folder, and then overwrite the one on your laptop?

If there are not too many modules, it may be easier to drag them all into an empty FS project - then open the project on the laptop, create the folder, and drag them into the toolbox there.
All of your modules are stored in one big folder within the Application Data area of Document and Settings, so not always easy to identify them quickly in the Windows browser.
Over at SM we've often requested that the Toolbox and the HDD folders mirror each other in structure, to make this kind of thing simpler.
All schematics/modules I post are free for all to use - but a credit is always polite!

Thanks for the insights!

Trogluddite's clue led me right where I needed to go. I missed it the first time, since I didn't think to include hidden files in the search. On my XP desktop, the custom modules were all grouped together under c:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Flowstone\Modules\User. On the Win 7 laptop, it was slightly different, but still easy to find once hidden files and directories were included: c:\users\comp_name\AppData\Roaming\Flowstone\Modules\User.

I simply copied the contents of one User directory (a bunch of *.hom files, one for each custom module) into the other. Once a new schematic was opened, all the custom modules appeared and life was grand once again.

Thanks for the help!
