Module search/selection area is a nightmare

I have a terrible time finding primitives I know should be there. It doesn't help that sometimes it's apparently because they've been dropped from the listing even though they're still supported within the program.

E.g. I've always used Wave Display to visualize the contents of an array but it seems the only way to get at it is to bring it back from an old SM project.

Meanwhile nothing shows under the 'External' filter (or most of the filters for that matter) and I don't know if it's my set up or what... I have to type 'asio' and 'midi' to get the external connectors I need.

I'm not using FS/SM very much these days and when I do I often start out in FM just because I know I can put something simple together in seconds without wondering if I'll find the pieces I need/want.

So I agree with the OP that module/primitive selection is not as good as it was in FM and I don't think it's only my cranky old-guy dislike of change.

 either that, or we are just 'cranky' and dislike change

I'm with you. The transition from SM to FS had some getting use to ...

I went back and import many SM projects for testing ... AND ... to add certain modules back into the FS toolbox.

I was recently alerted that there was an issue with one of my small projects that the 'pull-down' menu was not working in 64-bit [bridged] mode ... I've see issues before, so I replaced the FS version with the old SM version and was told it now works :o Why, I don't really know ...

Plus ... there we many useful modules built and posted in the SM forum that are great to have still ... so I add them to the FS toolbox.

I'll say this ... the more I use FS, the more comfortable I'm getting with it.

I still get messed up when typing in the search box, and end up inserting a 1/2 dozen PRIMs into my workspace
I do like the 'shortcut' inserting, but I get caught by it too ... oh well ... maybe need to spend more time using it.

oddson, you probably have to move some SM modules to FS by yourself. There were few SM primitives not available by default in FS. But they still work in FS.
Need to take a break? I have something right for you.
Feel free to donate. Thank you for your contribution.

I acknowledged that. The issue is why hide them?

So aside from that... is it just me or are the category filters not set up sensibly? Or did it just inherit my old filters but not which items to put where and not it's up to me to categorize 500+ items?

And does anyone prefer that each primitive now takes a full row in the toolbox where before each got a small square and you could easily have 50+ items showing at one time without scrolling?

Try finding the direct sound in and out by choosing external then filter it with the blue mono connector and you get a choice of the audio steam in and thats it. :?

Exactly...
It was so much better to select stuff from toolbox 'visually', instead of reading every line. :x
And , I can't use the scale slider. It's next to useless on my cpu.
if there is a lot of modules in the folder, the scale slider takes about 5 seconds to
open up folder display, and with every touch made in the folder to scroll up or down, add
another 5 seconds or more. Can't use it here at all. Totally UN-responsive.
I thought my slow cpu was too blame somehow....
But the SM toolbox still goes great.....which says it's not my cpu,
but a design error of the FS toolbox
oddson wrote:s it just me or are the category filters not set up sensibly?
.
No..its wrong...deselect a folder and scroll through entire list, and look at all the stuff
that dosn't belong.. :!:
having said all that, the rest of the FS toolbox seems 99% right. Did a good job.
They just f##ked up the display part.
One year later and it's still giving me the shits.

Thank you! This confirms there is something wrong with the way my filters are working. When I click 'External' there are no selected primitives/modules. I'll try reinstalling at some point.

Yes this is my biggest issue ... I hate that I can't see 50+ items.
I can't use the scale slider. It's next to useless on my cpu.

This is the other big issue that's driving me mad. It was excellent in SM but the current state is slow torture.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Maybe you're toolbox was messed up like mine was several times now.
It has been always the same story...
Sometimes when FS crashes ALL prims in my fav list loose their default or factory tags. IIRC they sometimes lost their fav tag also which means that more than once i had to find all of my regular used modules or prims and "retag" them.
