Direct sound input
Internally generated signals work great, but I'm having a hard time getting signals in to Flowstone from the sound card. Attached is a simple volume control using Directsound. I dug through all the settings in both Media Player 11 and iTunes 9.2 hoping to find a mismatch. In media player, under tools/options/devices/speakers, the playback device matches what I select in Flowstone, yet there is no change in output due to the volume control while playing files. I sense that I'm doing something wrong that is basic and silly, but I can't seem to find it. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Re: Direct sound input
Direct sound in doesn't seem to work..... Most likely a bug, as that is a very new component.

Re: Direct sound input
OK, thanks for the information. I feel better knowing that I wasn't making a boneheaded mistake. I'm assuming ASIO in works normally, so I'll try to reconfigure for that using ASIO4all, unless you have a better suggestion. Any advice for getting that running is definitely welcome. Thanks!

Re: Direct sound input
Direct Sound IN works perfectly as far as we know?
It is a new module but it has been tested for months now on lots of diferent systems and we haven't had any bug reports?
Attached is a simple test program.

Re: Direct sound input
As with the volume control, nothing shows up on the scope during playback. In this case, I played a .wav file using Windows media player. Under tools/options/devices/speakers, the "audio device to use" that is selected matches exactly the DS in setting. I tried all the other DS in options, just in case--no joy for any of them. The playback through the speakers is normal all the while. I also tried it with iTunes, with the same results, though in iTunes I didn't see an option to change the speaker playback device.

Re: Direct sound input
By the way I'm running windows 7 64bit with an X-fi sound card. If that helps trouble shoot.

Re: Direct sound input
I see, I think what you are trying to do is not how the soundcards work.
The DS In is for the physical input of the soundcard (Microphone or Line In) not an internal loop from DS Out from media player back in! (I just tested it too make sure, and what you are proposing doesn’t work here either, however the DS in is working form an external input as intended)
Try plugging something into your soundcard like an ipod or a microphone etc. and I think you will see it is working.

Re: Direct sound input
Ah ok yes was trying to use it as you stated .
Just assumed that it would work that way also.
Might be worth making this a bit clearer in the info text for the component. To avoid noobs like me misunderstanding in future
Cheers

PS Would be great if it could be made to work that way also though, if it's possible.

Re: Direct sound input
The next best thing for me is to load a wave file, rather than requiring an external device. The attached looks like it should work to me, but no joy at the outputs. What did I foul up?

Re: Direct sound input
Unfortunately it’s a little more complicated than that! In FlowStone wav files are loaded into ram for playback, this means that you can manipulate the playback ie. faster, slower, audio scrubbing, and waveform display etc.
I’ve uploaded a Wav file player to the examples which should get you going:
