Another boring Subtractive synth ;-

Sometimes you just need a simple widdal synth. ;)

After completing the FM7-style GUI for Spogg's Padulator, I wanted to do something else in that style. Coming off the Gargantua that was Vektor, I wanted to go the opposite direction with something very simple. Staying in the Yamaha vein, I went with an emulation of my very first synth - the CS01. A great candidate for the FM7 treatment, as the grey, plastic CS01 was not much to look at, to put it mildly.

Pretty much stuck with the CS01 program, the only real cheats were polyphony, velocity, and a little trick u-he has used a lot - the ability for a 'single' oscillator to be detuned against itself, as it were (uses the PWM Speed slider, which otherwise just sits there doing nothing when other waveforms are used).

The other little enhancement is substituting a crossfader for the LFO wheel-assign VCO/VCF switch. I can't believe I haven't thought of this one before. Almost all acoustic instrument modulation is in both pitch and timbre; almost never just one or the other. So convenient to control how much of which by a single control.

A later model swapped out the 2-pole filter with a 4-pole, so both are included.

Though I'm sure it wasn't true of the CS01 (it contained basically a synth-on-a-chip), in keeping with the Yamaha DNA, I've given the sawtooth the unique narrow-pulse spike of the CS80, FWIW.

The big things with the CS01 were it's strap lugs, battery power and odd wheels positioning which encouraged it's use as a keytar, and the inclusion of a breath controller input and associated controls. I've made these switchable to control by Aftertouch, Footpedal or Bend Wheel (for the very, very few of us who don't have a breath controller  ). Since it lacked a separate EG for the filter, it really relied on real-time performance control of the cutoff using the breath controller (or here, aftertouch, the footpedal or bend wheel).

Try getting that articulation with an SH-101.

Come on, you know you wanna get a Breath Controller!

With this switched to Aftertouch, I can play this with my Casio Digital Horn (which actually sends Aftertouch + Velocity, instead of BC messages).

Features the re-appearance of the Spogg/Vicanek 'SpaceOhRack'!

For those that have complained about my small, dark PMs, check out that bold, gold puppy right at the top! 8-)

Now yer cookin'...just backfit it to the other 193 synth GUIs you've posted up, and all is forgiven.
I keep a pair of oven mitts next to my computer so I don't get a concussion from slapping my forehead while I'm reading the responses to my questions.

Don't get excited - I only did that because that's how it looks in FM7; slavish imitator that I am.

Fleshed-out with more (nicely categorized) presets by Mr. Pleumer.

Kudos to Native Instruments; I just co-opted their design for FM7.

Updated to 64-bit, and with re-sizable GUI (thanks to Spogg for the show-how). :geek: :D

How goes the chord playing in your synths? 3keys chords play well at Octave 1?

Not sure what you mean - 32-note polyphony; what's Octave 1? Why would octave range affect polyphony?
