Or another cheap option might be a game controller - FS supports PS3 (Lynxmotion), Xbox or Wii controllers. But I'm not sure if any of those formats have a "flight control" type input device if you mean literally a "joystick".
Xbox is probably easiest of those to use, as it is a Microsoft device, so the drivers should already be there in your Windows installation - but I am still an XP'er, so I have no idea if they also suffer from the focus problem in more modern OS.
