New project idea
Re: New project idea
Individual band bypasses could be useful/handy, but readouts aren't needed, as the panel markings are quite accurate.

Already have both Readouts and individual Band Bypass. They stay for my version.
now ...
I want to add a Master Bypass. Wish I could do these with 'Gain Compensation' ... but that might be possible later.
Wow ... it has been quite some time since I got to use FlowStone.
It took something like the concept of this EQ to get me going. Nice.
too bad I forgot how to do many of the simple things I did know ... let alone anything advanced

The Equalization switch (Out/In/Blend) at the top is the master bypass.

OH !!
Thanks k brown ... cause I was certainly making a mess of trying to figure out whatever it was I was trying to do
2. What does the BLEND setting do ? might that be 'parallel' processing [guess].
Thanks for any clarifications

Re: New project idea
It monos everything below 40Hz, which can reduce random-phase low freq junk (like turntable rumble, wind noise etc.), without just chopping off the lows.
I'm about to post an update that incorporates your idea of bypasses on each band, adds an Info button to clarify some of the more mysterious controls and lists the Qs for each band, and a re-routing of the signal flow to more accurately reflect that of the Cello (bypassing the EQ leaves the Output level and Absolute Phase controls active). A couple of GUI tweaks, as well.

Re: New project idea
ok ... will check this out.
BTW ... where did you find documentation regarding the Q settings per Band ?

Just a minor point ...
The Output dial Gauge is not really accurate [maybe how it is on original]
It is a GAIN knob, with 0 gain at the 12noon position ... and goes +/- counter or clockwise.

Re: New project idea
The input and output level controls do not model the hardware - I didn't think such a wide output gain range was really necessary in a plugin. So I just gave both an arbitrary 0-10 scale with unity gain at 12:00, and a gain of 6dB at max.
I got the Qs from here; this person apparently arrived at the Qs experimentally till they got a match to the published curves: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php ... -settings/
And here's the original Palette manual:

Hi k brown,
Thanks for the additional information. I do appreciate that !
This EQ design has been an interesting experiment, and reading some of the online info has been quite educational.
Lurssen uses a similar concept at his Mastering Studio ... but I kinda liking these curves better.
I'm testing all this on a Live Concert Mastering session I have up.
I did some 'sketch out' with your Viola plugin ... but then I translated everything to my Massenburg MDW-eQs,
and then running that into my SPL PQ PreAmp section. The results have been quite impressive ... at least bringing
the recording into very good balance.
For detail, I'm using the Berton Analyzer, that allows overlays of multiple plugins and their curves/phase.
The MDW-eQ matches tight to Viola, except for the Lowest Band [15hz]. The output from the MDW is quite more than what Viola has at identical GUI settings. All other Bands are spot on ... including the 20+k Band.
Maybe something needs to be double checked ... I don't know. Regardless ... I'm making whatever change based on the response from the Track.
Hey ... thanks for sharing this Project, and for the addition info and details. You even got me playing with FlowStone again. Nice to have something to have a break from Mastering for a bit [still Music relate]
thx
