The Quilcom SIM-REED: No need to blow at all!

Hello fellow addicts!

I started this project with the idea of simulating a Shawm. But as I progressed I realised I had an engine that was quite flexible and could do a wide range of reed-woodwind type sounds. So rather than being very focussed and targeted it’s more of a “general” reed woodwind synth. As such it doesn’t feature the more detailed sculpting I would normally go for and the authenticity of the presets suffers somewhat as a result. On the other hand it does have a very wide range of timbres. I may be tempted to do more targeted instruments at some point…

Much of the available literature for such synths involves the use of waveguide oscillators so I spent some time on this but I never got the range of sounds I was hoping for. The main issue is the effect of varying the reflection filter(s) on tuning, due to alteration of the delay line length. So if you look inside the schematic you’ll see what I went for in the end.

The download includes what you’ve come to expect:

Hey thanks! :D

We all go through that stage when we start anything new. As the saying goes, you have to learn to walk before you can run. With FS there’s always more to learn, but the main thing is to have fun!

That’s a tricky one!
I might be inclined to say the Quilcom Rank 2. But I’ve had a lot of nice comments about my SIM-BP (much to my surprise!).

Consider yourself thoroughly linked my good sir...

And in return. I expect you to simulate this Mr Bond! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAROWiX5MGw

Thanks!

That’s a remarkable instrument and actually I was aware of it. It’s like a fuller sounding Hurdy Gurdy played with a conventional bow rather than a friction wheel.

Can't understand how you manage to simulate any of the instruments you already have done so far so.
And a whole lot of em as well...

Just.

Hurts my brain :?

Any thoughts on doing a version of Craig Huxley's Blaster Beam?

I keep a pair of oven mitts next to my computer so I don't get a concussion from slapping my forehead while I'm reading the responses to my questions.
