Webcam ID

Postby philter5 » Mon May 27, 2013 3:02 pm

i am currently building a application using the "Webcam" Primitive from the toolbox.
when i leave the "webcam ID" field blank it selects the internal webcam of my laptop and it works.
but i want to use another, external USB webcam instead. but where can i find the related "webcam ID" for it
to make it work? another question i have : can i use 2 webcams at the same time in 1 FS project?
thx

Your internal laptop cam is ID 0
If you don't have a internal cam then your USB cam is ID 0.
If you have an internal and a USB cam then your usb cam is ID 1.

But you can also take a look via IP cam, but then you need an IP adress and tell the webcam module that it is IP.

I also had an idea but it is not possible with FS. To open the internal webcam with a prog on an other computer.
So i tried to use the network server on the pc with internal cam and a network client on an other pc. it does not work, becasue you can't send the webcam image.
At least i'm not succeeding with it.

What does work is working remote on your laptop on the same network, then you can use the internal cam and see what's happening.

hey jjs,
thx for the hint,i´ve thought the same and i allready tried that. doesn´t work.at least here. maybe it´s a hardware related problem (the webcam is a Herkules DualPix HD). when connect the USB Webcam to my desktopPC
it works using ID 0. the internal webcam of my laptop works using ID 0,too. but when i connect the USB webcam
to my laptop, it does not work with ID 1,same for ID 2,3,4.... i also tried to disable the internal cam in the windows hardware manager, but still the USB cam won´t work.

Hey philter5,
Try that... This is just a sketch but it should nevertheless help a bit...

hey tektoog thx for the schematic, it has not helped me to get my Herkules USB webcam working on my laptop
(i think it´s a hardware bug - other USB cams work fine when i connect them) but at least i have learned a few
things from your file! every time i worked with the webcam primitive, it always crashed after a few minutes and showed me a red dotted "feedback loop" line, but there was no loop! in the past i just connected a tick 25 through a trigger switch to the grab input and used the boolean in of the trig switch to switch the cam on/off....
