Quilcom WATERPHONE

Post by Spogg »

When someone suggested I had a go at a Waterphone I had to find out what it was. Turns out it’s a weird sound effect instrument, created by Richard Waters, patented in 1975 and often used on spooky film soundtracks and I thought suitable for a Halloween 2026 release. It can produce a vast range of sounds and the rods can be bowed or struck. Water can be put into the resonator bowl and swished around to modulate pitch and timbre. The plugin uses synthesiser techniques to make a subset of what a real one can achieve. Since it’s a synthesiser, the sonic authenticity is limited but it’s also capable of doing more “tricks” than a real one.
