Someone suggested I have a go at a Flexatone, so, not knowing what one even is, I looked into it and bought one for fun, and to help me get the sound and behaviour better. First sold in America by Playatone, this 1923 invention is a novel percussion instrument mostly used as a sound effect in old cartoons and spooky films. You shake it to make the balls strike the metal plate and flex the plate with your thumb to change the pitch and timbre.
