Having problems with Direct Sound error.

Post by para.realist »

Hi, I'm new here.

I just installed Flowstone and get the error when i try to use a DS(direct sound) control.
DS_GENERIC_ERROR
I have as sole sound interface a Steinberg UR12.
Windows 10

What could be the problem?

Hello and welcome!

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of Windows 10 DirectSound issues with FlowStone.

It may be driver related or have other causes but the answer is to always use ASIO. ASIO is so much faster and responsive in any case.

If you don’t have an ASIO driver you can use the free and excellent ASIO4ALL
http://www.asio4all.org/

I do have ASIO4ALL and i tried that too.
Also my UR-12 ASIO. They both work fine in other programs.

But now Flowstone is just crashing without any error dialog.
I am using the latest BETA.

I will remove it and try the stable release.

CPU is intel i7-7700 3.60GHz

Then error "Schematic load type not found"
and
"attempted to access past its end"

This is very annoying.

I installed a virtual driver and i can now use multiple audio out through ASIO at same time.
So now Flowstone is working, at least i can try examples.

Happily trying examples  but then i try to save

error
Encountered an improper argument

It appears to me that this software is having problems on later computers?

I did try using my UR-12 ASIO, but i am using Virtual Cable and ASIO4ALL.

I removed beta2 and installed FlowStone_3_0_8_1
So Flowstone runs now and i even created an example, only problem now is
i cant save it.
error: "encountered an improper argument"

I am going to try installing the Beta 2 again.

Hi again

I just bumped my topic about not using the betas. Don’t do it!!

When you uninstall FS, the Appdata entries remain in place. This is a good thing because it means you keep your toolbox etc when updates come out. But it’s a bad thing if you have a corrupted or wrong version file in there.

So at this stage I would uninstall FS AND delete the whole Flowstone folder in

C:\Users\[yourname]\Appdata\Roaming

Then install version 3.06 which many of us find the best all round. At this stage it won’t matter that you’ll lose your toolbox since you are just beginning.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers
