Flowstone to DAW to Output (ASIO)

Post by aronb »

Hi,

Note: If anyone has even a partial solution PLEASE post it ;)

This is a similar question to another post I made , but I want to ask it in a different way (no answer from the first post anyway: http://www.dsprobotics.com/support/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3758

Here is what I desperately need to do or not do:

1) I do not want (or need) to make a VST for a DAW (Reaper, N-Tracks, whatever) or and exe. For Example: I want to be able to tweak the Flowstone schematic while I am working in the DAW, maybe turning up / down effects levels or tweaking a parameter when recording.

2) I do want to create a Flowstone Schematic with at least 5 channels out and be able to record the 5 (min) Flowstone channels to a DAW of my choice.

3) I do want to monitor those 5 channels on my selected ASIO output device.

4) I do want to be able to playback my recording on my selected ASIO output device.

5) I may want to playback 10 or more channels on my selected ASIO output device after I am done editing in the DAW. (that's easy - use a multichannel USB multichannel ASIO devise)...

The first 4 are the real problem... I cannot get an output from Flowstone to be monitored through the DAW using ANY protocol ASIO or whatever... Anything used in Flowstone does not appear in and DAW I've tried, even unused channels.

Does ANYONE have any possible solution for this PLEASE... ANYTHING to give me another avenue to investigate ?

I may just be thinking too hard at this issue and the answer is easy, but it has stumped me. I would like to use my audio output interfaces ASIO, but then I can't use virtual cables (ASIO4ALL) i.e. more than one driver at a time, so output good but no "virtual cables" or no output but "virtual cables" work ???? I can either get 5 or more channels to Flowstone, but then can't output the audio from the DAW, or I can output audio from the DAW, but not get it into the DAW from Flowstone - it is infuriating  !!!

Thanks for any help on this problem,

Aron

Hi Aron,

The only idea that comes to mind ...

To get audio back and forth between different apps, there is something called 'Virtual Audio Cable'.

I don't have the exact name of the dev at this point.

The same idea exist for MIDI. For this, I use LoopBE-1. It is a free virtual MIDI cable that connects to various apps.

For my development, I use LoopBE to allow FS to talk with VSTHost. This allows me to test MIDI controls of a VST directly from FStone.

hope this helps.

RJHollins,

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried VAC (Virtual Audio Cables) again but in a different way - no go  ... but it got me thinking 8-)

I have Reaper x64 installed and ReaRoute was not showing up even though it was installed.

"ReaRoute is an ASIO driver that allows you to route audio to and from any other ASIO enabled application", and is installed as an x64 version when of course you install the x64 version of Reaper - more on this later. But I could never get ReaRoute working with Flowstone... it would never show up in the ASIO module - started thinking x64 / x32 :geek:

When I started Reaper again it told me there was a software update, and when I looked at the choices I thought maybe I should install the x32 version even though I have an x64 machine - mainly because Flowstone is x32. I changed the install of Reaper to the x32 version (which includes a x32 version of ReaRoute), and bingo it showed up

So in Flowstone I select ReaRoute and within Reaper I select my ASIO output device. In the Routing Matrix (Reaper) I use ReaRoute as the inputs, and set the outputs to my ASIO output driver. And IMPORTANTLY, set the Tracks in Reaper to monitor the input... BINGO IT WORKS GREAT :D

see: http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/ReaRoute

When I get home I will do a few screen captures and post those for others who may want to do the same craziness as me :P !

Take Care,

Aron

Rewire?
do you mean, ReaRoute is an ASIO driver ;)
and yes, it is an optional from the Reaper installer.
