PDC - Predicted Delay Compensation

Post by Rocko »

Hi,

I'm wondering about the 'PDC' issue. Not sure I understand it correctly.

Is this description correct:
Ideally, all channels should be playing at the same exact timing, for coherency.
Since each channel might have different processing, and some of the processing might introduce latency, there is no way for the host (DAW) to know how to set the compensation.
For this reason, each processor, 'reveals' it internal latency to host.

Example:
If we are dealing with a 'look ahead limiter' with a latency of 24 samples, its PDC should be set to '24'.
The host will send information to the channel which runs the limiter 24 samples ahead of other channels, to keep coherency.

Is this correct info?

Appreciated !

Its called Plugin Delay Compensation. When a plugin sends its latency to the host, the host can use PDC to compensate for the latency. If you use PDC then all the other channels will be delayed by the latency amount, so its not your compressor with 24 samples latency that gets delayed, it already is, it delays all other channels so the sound happens at the same time.

Hi,

Thanks for the explanation. Appreciated.

So, how can I set PDC in Flowstone? Say I want to use flowstone to design a limiter... Is there a way for me to set PDC?

That I dont know unfortunately. I think the vst will do that automatically for the host.

you need to include the delay compensation primitive in your project, there you can set the delay
